Tonkeeper: 24-Word TON Phrases and Multichain Migration
Tonkeeper is now Keeper, a self-custody wallet that continues to support TON. An existing TON wallet with a 24-word recovery phrase cannot convert directly into a multichain wallet. Keeper provides a migration flow that transfers assets from that TON wallet to a new multichain wallet.
updated
- Recovery-phrase lengths accepted for import
- 12 or 24 words. A matching word count alone does not identify the wallet type.
- Multichain wallet setup
- Create a wallet through "New Wallet" or import a compatible existing wallet from another app. Multichain wallets also support TON.
Derivation paths and wallet identity
A derivation path is a method for generating addresses and keys from a recovery phrase. Keeper's rebranding explanation, updated September 15, 2026, identifies different derivation paths for existing 24-word TON wallets and multichain wallets.
A 24-word phrase and its wallet origin
Hypothetical input: a reader has a complete 24-word recovery phrase, with its wallet origin initially unknown. The count matches one accepted import length, but leaves the wallet type undetermined.
In the same hypothetical case, the reader identifies the phrase as belonging to an existing TON wallet. The count remains 24, and that wallet cannot convert directly into a multichain wallet.
Restoration and migration entry paths
Keeper's restore and import instructions, updated September 15, 2026, provide "Import existing wallet" when first opening the app. With another wallet already added, tap its name, select "Add wallet" and choose "Existing wallet".
Importing the old TON wallet restores access to the wallet that already exists. For multichain migration, Keeper provides a flow that transfers assets from the old TON wallet to a new multichain wallet. The destination also supports TON; the transfer changes where the assets reside without converting the old wallet in place.
